Top Star Has Creative Control In AEW
Below are some top AEW news stories of the day, involving Mercedes Mone and Jim Ross.
• Mercedes Mone has confirmed that she has creative control in AEW.
Mercedes made her debut in All Elite Wrestling earlier this year at Big Business from the TD Garden and then made her in-ring debut at Double or Nothing 2024, where she defeated Willow Nightingale to win the TBS Women’s Championship. This Sunday at Forbidden Door, she is set to defend the TBS Title while also challenging for the NJPW Women’s Strong Championship against Stephanie Vaquer.
In an interview with TMZ, Mercedes talked about the endless opportunities she’s getting in AEW and her ambitious goals within the company.
“I feel like here at AEW, all of my dreams and opportunities are just endless. So, of course, being the TBS Champion and this Sunday at Forbidden Door, I’m about to be a two-time champion. I’m going to be the TBS Champion and the New Japan Strong Champion. So, yes, this little creativity that I have of taking all the belts and going global is beautiful.”
When pressed further on whether she had creative control, Mone confirmed that she does but emphasized her close collaboration with AEW President Tony Khan.
“I mean, because I got this. I think just every single week you got to watch. Yes, I have creative control, but I work with Tony Khan very closely. So it’s great. It’s a great combo.”
Mercedes’ statement reflects her excitement and satisfaction with her role in AEW, where she continues to push creative boundaries and pursue her championship aspirations on a global scale.
• Jim Ross announced on social media that he will be flying to New York to attend this Sunday’s AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024 PPV. This comes after a recent health scare that put his appearance in doubt.
On June 25th, Ross was admitted to the emergency room due to difficulty breathing. Despite this setback, Ross had expressed his intention to be at Forbidden Door during a recent episode of his podcast, which was recorded before his trip to the ER.

This isn’t the first time Ross has faced health issues recently. He was previously admitted to the ER for shortness of breath in May, which caused him to miss Double or Nothing.
